About Us

The Green Laboratory at Northwestern University is a pioneering research center focused on understanding cellular adhesion and communication in tissues. Led by Kathleen Green, PhD, the Joseph L. Mayberry, Sr. Professor of Pathology and professor of Dermatology, our team investigates how cells physically connect and communicate to maintain tissue integrity.

Our research spans from molecular mechanisms to clinical applications, with particular emphasis on desmosomes and cell junction biology in skin disease, heart disease and cancer. As an integral part of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, we combine curiosity-driven research with practical applications in disease treatment. Our collaborative environment brings together diverse talents and perspectives, fostering the development of future scientific leaders through mentorship and innovative research.
