The Burridge Lab is dedicated to the elimination of the use of animals and animal-derived products in our research.

FBS: We have eliminated the use of FBS from the lab. For now we have we replaced it with Cosmic Calf Serum, which was the best performing FBS alternative in our hands. We are actively trying to fully eliminate all animal sera from all of our protocols.

Albumin: We are actively progressing towards the development of fully albumin-free cell culture protocols with lower cost than albumin-containing protocols.

Matrigel: We have found that Matrigel can be replaced with 1:1000 Synthemax with only minor tweeks to some of our differentiation protocols. Cost is similar.

Antibodies: We recommend searching DSHB (below) or finding reasonably priced existing monoclonal antibodies. We extensively use BD directly conjugated antibodies for flow cytometry.

Secondary antibodies: We are currently testing Proteintech's Multi-rAb recombinant monoclonal secondary antibodies and Thermo Superclonal Plus secondary antibodies.

Staining: We did not find that Vector Labs Animal-Free Blocker works for IF. We are actively seeking an alternative.

The Burridge Lab is a proponent of open-access resources.

We endeavor to publish all of our pre-print manuscripts on BioRxiv. All of our published papers are available below.

All of the plasmids included in our publications are available from Addgene.

Where possible we use antibodies provided by the Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank.

Some of our favorites include: SSEA4, POU5F1, NANOG, SOX2, TNNT2, TNNI3, ACTN1.

RNA-seq data for our published projects are available from GEO.
