Research to Impact Lives

Cancers caused as the result of epigenetic abnormalities including MLL translocation-based pediatric leukemia, MLL3/MLL4 mutation-driven bladder cancers, and diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas caused by histone mutations, all tend to have very poor prognoses. The epigenetic data coming out of Shilatifard’s laboratory and Northwestern University School of Medicine is pointing more and more towards the possibility that the epigenetic mechanisms and the inhibitors that are being studied and developed in the laboratory have a very good chance of improving the treatments and outcomes for these cancers. This is incredibly inspiring to the members of the laboratory involved in these studies, and for the patients suffering from these diseases.
