Advancing diagnostics and therapies for chronic disease through glycoimmunology.
The Abdel-Mohsen Lab
The Abdel-Mohsen Lab at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine explores the human glycome, an intricate layer of sugars coating cells, proteins and lipids, long considered the “dark matter” of biology due to its complexity.
With emerging glycomic technologies, we’re uncovering how glycans regulate immunity, inflammation and disease. Our research integrates glycomics, immunology, virology and systems biology to reveal how viruses, cancer and aging reshape the glycome, driving immune dysfunction and inflammaging.
Our goal: to translate these insights into novel diagnostics and glyco-immunotherapies that extend healthspan for people aging with chronic diseases.
