Using genomics to inform precision medicine.

The Chisholm Lab, led by Rex Chisholm, PhD, researches genomics and bioinformatics to inform precision medicine.

Chisholm leads NUgene, a DNA biobanking effort that enrolls research participants in a study on the genetic contributions to human disease, therapeutic outcomes and gene-environment interactions. NUgene is part of the eMERGE network, which is funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute to create a network of biobanks that link electronic medical records. Chisholm has served as the national chair of the eMERGE steering committee since 2007. The goal of his current eMERGE project is establishing a program for genomics-informed precision medicine in partnership with Northwestern’s health care affiliates.

Chisholm is the principal investigator of the NIH-funded Dictyostelium Community Resource. He was also the founding director of the Center for Genetic Medicine. Since 2007, he has served as Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In October 2012, he was appointed Associate Vice President for Research of Northwestern University.
