Biography
Rex Chisholm, PhD, has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications. He leads a network of interdisciplinary investigators through the eMERGE network, which is funded and organized through the National Human Genome Research Institute. In the eMERGE Network, which he has led for 17 years, he chairs the steering committee to support research that combines DNA biorepositories with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for large scale, high-throughput genetic research in support of implementing genomic medicine.
In addition to leading the national eMERGE network, he leads NUGene at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, which collects and stores DNA samples and associated health information from patients at Northwestern Medicine–affiliated hospitals and clinics to be used by scientists to examine the role genes play in the development and treatment of common diseases.
He is also principal investigator of Dictyostelium Community Resource.
Chisholm came to Northwestern in 1984 and his research has been supported continuously since 1985 by the National Institutes of Health. His research has also received support from the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Department of Defense. He has been a member of three NIH-chartered review groups.
