Postdoctoral Fellow in Translational Brain Tumor Research
The Department of Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow for our basic and translational studies in immunotherapy of malignant brain tumors. Current research in our lab focuses on the development of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells targeting IL13Ra2 tumor associated antigen and interactions of CAR T cells with host immune system in syngeneic models of disease. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to build a publication record including submissions to leading cancer biology journals; supervise rotating undergraduate, graduate and medical students; apply for internal and/or extramural funding; and attend national meetings that will help to build an international reputation.
This position offers an opportunity to work in the lab of Dr. Irina Balyasnikova, one of only handful of scientists employing this technology for therapeutic targeting of malignant brain tumors. In addition, the Balyasnikova lab collaborates extensively with several other neuro-oncology labs, including teams both within Northwestern University and other leading academic medical centers across the United States.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in neuroscience or related fieldRequired Competencies:
- Strong experience in multi-color flow cytometry
- Experience and understanding of immunological techniques
- Experience working with small animal models
- Ability to design and conduct experiments, maintain accurate GLP style recordkeeping, and collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prepare and present research at meetings and write scientific manuscripts in fluent English
- Knowledge of confocal microscopy and live animal imaging techniques
